From one Regina George to another, Rachel McAdams, the actress who played the iconic mean girl in the 2004 hit movie "Mean Girls," made a surprise appearance on the January 20 episode of "Saturday Night Live." Her purpose? To introduce musical guest Reneé Rapp, who takes on the role of Regina in the 2024 musical remake of the film.
The audience greeted McAdams with enthusiastic applause before Rapp took the stage to perform "Not My Fault," a song she wrote for the movie. Megan Thee Stallion joined her for the performance. Following the musical number, McAdams returned for a sketch, this time portraying Natalie Partman, an actor struggling to secure roles due to her uncanny resemblance to Rachel McAdams.
It's worth noting that McAdams, the real one, has been absent from recent "Mean Girls" events, adding an extra layer of excitement to her unexpected SNL appearance. The original film also featured Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert, who recently reunited for a Walmart commercial. Additionally, Lohan made a cameo at the New York City premiere of the remake.
While Tina Fey and Tim Meadows reprised their roles in the musical remake, McAdams did not join them.
"Tina and I tossed around a few ideas, but it was challenging to make everything come together in the end," McAdams revealed in a recent interview with Variety. "I was open to whatever she wanted to do. I believe the direction they took will be fantastic, and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing it."
McAdams also declined to appear in the Walmart commercial alongside her fellow cast members.
"I don't know, I just wasn't that thrilled about doing a commercial if I'm being completely honest. A movie sounded amazing, but commercials are uncharted territory for me, and it didn't really resonate with me," she explained. "Plus, I didn't realize everyone was on board. I'd always love to be part of a 'Mean Girls' reunion and spend time with my plastics, but I only found out about it later."
In essence, McAdams remains supportive of the "Mean Girls" legacy but opted out of recent reunions and commercials, saving her excitement for potential future movie projects.

I can relate so much to the experiences shared in this post.
